St Saviour’s School, London

Laurels Global visited St Saviour’s Church of England Primary School, London, to explore areas of cooperation, see classroom activities and meet the staff of the school, run by the Church of England that manages nearly 150 schools and academies in the United Kingdom.

Laurels Global and St Saviour’s School have agreed to promote sharing of knowledge, exchange of teachers, information and experiences and strengthen school curriculums.

The Church of England has been establishing and sustaining schools for the people of London for hundreds of years. In 1924, the London Diocesan Board for Schools was set up to be the educational arm of the London Diocese. The function of the LDBS and aspects of its governance are set down in the Diocesan Measure which has been approved by both Parliament and the Church. Key purposes if the LDBS are "to promote church schools" and "to promote education which is consistent with the faith and practice of the Church of England.

St Saviour’s headteacher Mr Barry J. Porter said the school aims to provide a curriculum which is broad and balanced enough to provide all pupils with a good all round education, and which will help pupils acquire the knowledge, concepts and practical skills which are relevant to the world in which they are living and which will prepare them for adult life.

Mr Porter said the school’s goal is to provide an education which fosters intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth and one which encourages independent learning and creativity within a stimulating and disciplined environment. The school encourage the individual child at every stage of learning to develop his/her particular abilities and talents, and to develop his/her full potential, particularly in literacy and numeracy. He also stressed that the school teaches respect for religious and moral values, and tolerance for other races, religions and ways of life.
